SouthPeak Games is the next publisher to reveal some of its 2008 products, just after Atari, announcing their first PlayStation 2 game for 2008: Iridium Runners. As everyone can see, Sony's PS2 still remains a platform worthy of every bit of attention from renowned developers and publishers, seven years into its life cycle. Iridium Runners is set for a February release at a "mid-range price point".

SouthPeak Games is set to start the new year with the February launch of Iridium Runners, the first of seven titles planned for release in 2008. Iridium Runners, SouthPeak's inventive on-foot arcade racing title for PlayStation2, will be on the shelves from February 22nd at a mid-range price point, says the official Southpeak report.

Iridium Runner, developed by Italian game studio Playstos, is set in the year 2050. Players take the role of several runners participating in the Iridium Championship (a series of athletic on-foot races sponsored by futuristic mega-corporations). Call it a blend of Unreal Tournament and Need for Speed if you will.

According to the game's publisher, pure speed isn't enough to win, given the game's wildly inventive tracks, combinations of collectable power-ups and weapons and of course, the sheer frenetic pace it delivers. As such, players are introduced to a wide variety of options whilst pursuing their ultimate goal: gaining victory over the other contestants.

"Iridium Runners is our first release for 2008, which promises to be an amazing year for us," said Melanie Mroz, Executive Vice President, SouthPeak Games. "We've got titles across eight formats lined up for the rest of the year and it's great to be starting with a distinctive, instantly-accessible racing title like Iridium Runners. At its mid-range price point, we're sure its charm and inventive design will appeal to any PlayStation2 gamer looking for a bit of futuristic racing action."

Remember, Iridium Runners is just one of seven titles planned for release this year, under SouthPeak Games publishing label. The game is due out next month, for Sony's PlayStation 2 at a decent price, as the publisher implies.
