Sony has just detailed some of the special deals it will be running in order to motivate new PlayStation Vita owners and existing PS3 users to try out the cross-platform play feature, including free games and DLC.

The PlayStation Vita is getting ready for its release next week in North America and Europe. In order to raise the hype around it, Sony’s been promoting its various features, from the social apps to the backwards compatibility with PSP titles.

Now, after showcasing the cross-platform capability of the Vita with the PlayStation 3, Sony has revealed some extra deals that will motivate PS3 owners to get the new handheld console.

Three special offers are available that relate to Wipeout 2048, Hustle Kings, and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, so check out their descriptions below, straight from Sony.

- If you purchase Hustle Kings for PS Vita, you will get Hustle Kings on PS3 for free. If you already own Hustle Kings on PS3, you’ll be able to download the PS Vita version for free.

- If you purchase WipEout 2048, you will be able to download WipEout 2048’s DLC packs, WipEout HD and HD Fury for free when they launch on PS Vita later this spring (if you already own the PS3 versions)

- DLC purchased for the PS3 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 can be used on the PS Vita version for free (and vice versa).

The Wipeout 2048 deal has caused a lot of head scratching, so here’s the basic explanation: PlayStation Vita owners will have to buy Wipeout 2048 next week, when it is released. At that time, they’ll be able to play with PS3 users that own Wipeout HD on four tracks.

After a while, the tracks in Wipeout HD and its Fury add-on will be released as DLC for 2048. At this point in time, if owners of the Vita game have already bought HD and Fury on the PS3, they’ll be able to get the DLC for free.

Expect Sony to continue making such special deals in order to get existing PS3 owners to invest in a Vita.

i wish playstation wasn't so tight lipped and BOGUS with their lack of clarity on how this DLC and cross play stuff actually worked. I'm out almost $100 bucks because of bad communication
