The upcoming PlayStation Vita handheld platform will allow its owners to experience all existing PlayStation 3 games via the Remote Play feature.

The PlayStation Vita is Sony’s big bet on dedicated handheld gaming consoles, with the Japanese company being quite confident that it will prove to existing gamers that a specialized device is better than current mobile phones or tablets.

We’ve already seen many of the Vita’s features and even heard about the wide amount of games that will appear for the device during and after its release.

Now, it seems that Sony wants to upgrade the PlayStation Vita’s Remote Play feature to support all existing PlayStation 3 games.

According to Eurogamer, a future firmware update for the PS3 will allow it to stream any and all of its games to the screen of the Vita, with players being able to use the handheld device both as a controller and as a screen.

Older games will only be able to display images at the PSP’s original 480x272 resolution, but this will be upscaled to fit the bigger screen of the Vita.

New games will have a special feature built in to display their action at the Vita’s native 480p (640x480) resolution, so it won’t be any reduction in quality.

Sony already presented the Remote Play feature for the PlayStation Vita earlier this year so a complete announcement about its inner workings might appear, ahead of the console’s release in Japan, this December, and in Europe and North America, next February.

Until then, the Vita will be backwards compatible with all the PSP games now available for download from the online PlayStation Store, while owners can also pay to have their older PSP games on UMD discs transferred onto the new device.

With this backwards compatibility, coupled with the Remote Play feature and the variety of dedicated games coming to the device, the PlayStation Vita is looking might impressive.
