Sounds good, but is it? A survey posted on the
Asian PlayStation website includes the bold proposal of a monthly subscription plan for those using the PC-version of
PlayStation Store. Given the truckload of
PSone titles available on the Asian PlayStation Network, Japan might just say
Yes!
Yes dear gamers and fans of the PlayStation brand, the Asian website clearly asks: "On average, how much you are willing to spend on downloading
PSP content online per month?"
Here are your options (that is, IF you decide to answer and say "yes I could see that..."):
- HK$0/ NT$0/ SG$0
- HK$1 - $100/ NT$1 - $25/ SG$1 - $20
- HK$101 - $200/ NT$26 - $50/ SG$21 - $40
- HK$201 - $300/ NT$51 - $75/ SG$41 - $60
- HK$301 or above / NT$76 or above/ SG$ 61 or above
There's also an opinions column which, if you fill up in such a manner that it touches Sony deep down inside, you'll be chosen as "one of the 10 customers who have provided the best suggestions" and receive
PSN wallet top-up of HK$100/ $25/ SG$20. Although the plan could very well apply elsewhere but the
PC PlayStation Store, the survey focuses on this version alone for now.
It doesn't sound bad, that's for sure - a monthly subscription fee for unlimited downloads spanning everything video game-related from demos, to trailers and full games (be they PSone classics). However, if this is Sony's way of trying to get more cash out of its customers the Gold-member way, they've got another thing coming. Gamers aren't going to fall for it if the slightest detail turns out to be in their disadvantage once the plan is approved (if it's approved).
Think about it, everything but full games is practically free for PSN (and implicitly PS Store) users, so why would they suddenly want to pay for the content? Sony is going to have to throw in more than just the full PSone lineup for this plan.
