Today, mobile phone maker LG Electronics made a new handset available for purchase in its homeland market, the PRADA phone by LG 3.0.

Released as the result of a collaboration between the South Korean mobile phone maker and the renowned fashion label PRADA, the new handset is set to hit additional markets in Europe and Asia in January next year.

In South Korea, the phone was made available on the airwaves of SK Telecom. LG also announced that PRADA 3.0 is set to land on KT’s network on January 5th.

The phone is featuring a price tag of 899,900 won (about $780 / 595 Euros) outright, but wireless carriers will have it at discounted price tags with the signing of two-year contract agreements.

The handset was made official in Seoul about a month ago, but was not showcased to the world, until about two weeks ago, during a London event.

“The stylish new device has been attracting significant attention for being the only smartphone with premium branding on the market currently,” LG notes.

“Following PRADA's renowned design philosophy, the handset features a full glossy touchscreen on the front and PRADA's signature Saffiano pattern on the back. Impressively thin at only 8.5mm, minimal hardkeys and a classic black finish complete the phone's sleek look.”

This is the third handset to be launched as part of the PRADA and LG collaboration. It sports PRADA's trademark chic simplicity, along with high-end technology coming from LG.

The handset’s specs list includes a 4.3-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen NOVA display that can deliver a 800-nit brightness, along with a 1.0GHz Dual-Core/Dual Channel architecture.

The mobile phone packs 8GB of internal memory and is powered by a 1540mAh battery. On the back, it sports an 8-megapixel photo snapper with support for HD video recording.

The PRADA phone by LG 3.0 was made available with Google’s Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system on board. However, LG committed to provide it with an upgrade to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform version sometime in the second quarter of the next year.
