Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new software update for its latest high-end devices, including the Nokia E7, Nokia N8, Nokia C7 or Nokia C6-01, all of which are running under the Symbian^3 operating system.

We're not referring here to the PR1.2 software update, which should arrive on devices in a matter of weeks, but to a major update, dubbed PR2.0, with over 50 new features inside, and expected to be pushed out from Nokia's labs sometime in summer.

The company already confirmed its existence in a series of posts on its support forums, and even detailed some of the new features that would be included in it, but there still are a great deal of aspects on this update that are not known for the time being.

However, before an official changelog for this PR 2.0 firmware becomes available, which should happen closer to the software's availability date, we can learn some more info on the update through a series of videos available around the web.

Among the enhancements that the new software would bring into the mix, we can count some performance improvements for the browser, along with a series of UI changes, or the inclusion of a portrait-mode on-screen QWERTY keyboard, which should prove a great addition for many users.

A recent post on the Nokia discussion forums, aimed at offering info on another software update the company is preparing for the Symbian^3 handsets, namely PR1.2/PR1.1, offers some info on this firmware upgrade as well, in the form of Q&A:

Q: You have promised a new SW with browser and portrait QWERTY. Why are those not available in this release?

A:We hope that consumers will be very excited as we continue to enhance our smartphone experience in 2011. We are not stopping here but there are further improvements on the way. We anticipate the software to be available in the summer. The first video below is a general presentation of the update, showing a revamped music player, the new, faster UI, as well as a glimpse at the said improved browser, which would include a new keyboard layout, and tabbed browsing.

According to the guys over at The Nokia Review, who found these videos on the web, the new browser does not seem to impress that much when it comes to performance, although its UI is different, as can be seen in the second video below.

However, the third video below would offer more details on the enhancements that Nokia brought to the browser, which should indeed offer a better experience to all users. The second and third videos feature the Nokia C7 smartphone.

Stay tuned to learn more info on the upcoming software update for Nokia's Symbian^3 phones, since the company would certainly unveil more closer to the availability date.
