Last week, three of the latest smartphones Finnish giant Nokia brought to the market last year got updated, namely the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01, all three running under the Symbian^3 mobile operating system. That was the first update they received since release day (it came as firmware PR 1.1), and some more info on what it included emerged. With this software update, Nokia provided its users with updates for a series of features and applications, as well as with a series of fixes for various issues the OS came with, and with improvements meant to deliver a better experience to all users.

Following the update, users would benefit from direct access to a brand new Ovi Store 2.0, as well as from updated Ovi Maps data, which brought in new navigable countries, Quickoffice 6.4.166, Social 1.2 with various photo and video upload improvements, Web updated to 7.2.8.10, with minor fixes, and more.

According to a recent article on All About Symbian, the Nokia Email received a great update too, with better performance levels, a more visible 'unread emails' flag added to homescreen widget, maps integration, and other enhancements more.

At the same time, the news site notes that the PR 1.1 software update delivered a series of general performance enhancements as well, that the new firmware enabled the dialer work in landscape mode, and that there is an enhanced music player screensaver available for users.

As stated above, a series of fixes were included into the mix as well, such as:

- Charging indicator keeps going up when you disconnect charger under some circumstances - Battery indicator algorithm tweaked to be more linear (i.e. the old 'six bars and then it dies ten minutes later' syndrome is hopefully banished) - Problem with video streaming from web sites - Smoother video camera zooming (remember there's intelligent interpolation as well, so this isn't a gimmick) - SMS message stuck in outbox - MMS messages fail to send and get stuck in outbox - Device does not restore all settings after returning from power saving mode - Screen image sometimes corrupted when you scroll up/down in Quickoffice - Minor N8 charging issues - Music player and Photos issues - Set “save sent messages” as 'No', but actually they still get saved. - Breathing light now optimized to 'breathe' only when screensaver is set to none or the phone is in powersaver mode - Animated screensaver option removed - Charging indicator erroneous when charging with power off - Web browser crashes when encoding is set to “Thai (TIS-620)” - Problem with National Geographic 'web TV' - Phone freezes when you insert the letter É inside a Social network - All Widgets disappear after updating Social network and you set “Thai” UI

The new software was made available both as an Over the Air update, as well as via the Ovi Suite application on desktop computers (the full firmware will be installed this way). To download over the air, one would need to type *#0000# on the dialer screen.
