UTStarcom and the Indian telecommunications company Reliance Communications have announced the signing of a deal that will bring the PPC 6700 handheld on the wireless network of the latter, this being the first CDMA enabled smartphone available on the Indian carrier's network. "The GeniusPhone", as it has been named by UTStarcom, is a phone that does it all and does it with advanced features that will make its buyer feel good about the decision he made to buy this smartphone.

The PPC 6700 runs a Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC operating systems and features a side-slide full QWERTY keyboard that will offer a more balanced feel to its users compared to a handheld with a sliding down keyboard. Another nice feature is the fact that when the keyboard is being slid, the 2.8 inch 65k colors TFT touch-screen will automatically enter in landscape mode offering a seamless and easy transition from the portrait mode enabled while the phone has its keyboard drawn under the display.

The dual-band "GeniusPhone" also offers EV-DO, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity keeping the user online wherever he may be, a 1.3 megapixel camera that offers video capture support, a speakerphone, a miniSD memory expansion card slot, all of these coming together with the entire Windows Mobile 5.0 software suite.

The president and CEO of Reliance Communications, Enterprise Business, Prakash Bajpai, has declared that "Reliance Mobile Pocket PC is a step forward in our endeavor to provide best and competitive services that harness technology for enhancing effectiveness. It will offer our customers to integrate their business applications seamlessly across the broadband infrastructure to mobile use."

The CDMA enabled smartphone will be available through all the Reliance Communications sales channels but will only have coverage across eight cities from India.
