The storage device reaches 90 MB/s transfer speed

It's not easy being a USB 2.0 flash drive in a world where even USB 3.0 is starting to be surpassed, so PNY didn't try to restrict its newest flash drives to Hi-Speed at all. That said, meet the HP x755w.

Not to be confused with HP (the world-leading company about to be mercilessly cut in half), the flash drive is the sort of thing you can expect to use for all sort of storage-related tasks.

That's right, this is a flash drive line that can do anything from storing files normally to running a bootable operating system.

In fact, even the lowest-capacity model has enough room for an entire Windows 8 operating system kit: 8 GB.

The USB 3.0 SuperSpeed technology allows for 5 Gbps transfer speeds. Alas, there are no storage devices that can actually use that bandwidth fully. Also, those that come close are SSDs, not tiny flash drives that need to make both capacity and performance concessions.

It's actually noteworthy that the new line even attains 64 GB, given how many drives don't go over 16 GB or 32 GB.

Then again, we've seen more than a few 128 GB or 256 GB flash drive units, and there are even memory cards with those capacities, so the HP x655w isn't that shocking in the grand scheme of things.

The top performance depends on capacity, as is always the case of NAND Flash-based storage devices. The best read speed you can hope for is 90 MB/s, while the top writing speed is 30 MB/s.

PNY calls this an unparalleled transfer speed in its press release, but don't mind the PR accolades. There are others with the same parameters out there.

Unfortunately, we can't really say whether or not these are more convenient without knowing what the prices are, and PNY didn't see fit to include that little bit of info in its press release.

The design of the HP x755w flash drives

The drive is mostly colored sky blue, with white for the main inner body. The product works on the principle of a push-pull USB port and has a hole where you can attach a key ring, chain or lanyard. At least you won't have any chance of misplacing the cap, however low the odds are of such a thing happening.

Whenever the PNY HP x755w USB 3.0 flash drive reaches stores, it will be accompanied by a warranty of 2 years. All versions of Windows and Mac OS 10.3 or higher operating systems are supported.
