It is made from eMLC NAND Flash chips and is aimed at CAD/CAM

If this were a hard disk drive, I'd assume that the 5K in the name stood for the rotary speed of the platters (5,400 RPM).

It's not though. The newest product from PNY Technologies is a solid-state drive with no moving parts.

Called SSD Prevail 5K, it has capacities of 120 GB, 240 GB and 480 GB.

Constructed out of eMLC NAND Flash memory chips, it is “equipped with high performance features” and will settle well in RAID servers, cloud computers, and workstations used in CAD (computer-aided design) and CAM (computer-aided manufacturing).

Obviously, systems used for video editing will benefit as well.

Sadly, PNY didn't provide a spec sheet along with the press release, so we're left guessing at the sequential and random 4K speeds. The price was also not mentioned.
