Two weeks ago we were announcing the new features of the upcoming Fedora 17 (Beefy Miracle) operating system, due for release on May 8th, 2012.

Today we're announcing that the unreleased PHP 5.4 scripting language for web development will be included in the final version of the Fedora 17 Linux distribution. The build will include ZTS extensions and modules, as well as other features. See here for more details.

Dubbed Beefy Miracle, Fedora 17 Linux will bring a simplified filesystem by moving everything to /usr, the Btrfs as the default filesystem, software rendering for GNOME Shell, Thin provisioning, support for the D2 programming language, PackageKit and systemd integration.

Among other features of the upcoming Fedora 17 distribution we can mention support for Automatic Seat and ConsoleKit removal, KDE Plasma dependency generation, a new password quality checking mechanism, a new virtio-scsi storage architecture for KVM based on SCSI, ns-3 discrete-event network simulator, DRI2 3D drivers, and Boost 1.48.

Also see the official release schedule for Fedora 17 (Beefy Miracle).
