PETA Wants Britney on All Fours

- The animal rights group would like the singer to experience their woes first-hand

By: Monica Gaza, Entertainment News Editor

Britney Spears is on track to getting at least a shred of her old popularity back – however, the singer's die-hard fans would do well not to hold their breath on it: Britney's road to recovery is set to be slow and there's no telling if she will ever be able to reach even one half of the success
she once enjoyed. However, after the singer's successful cameo in the NBC sitcom "How I Met Your Mother", job offers have been pouring in, proving that many people out there are willing to extend Brit Brit the olive branch and take advantage...that is, share the world's interest in the popwreck's every move. However, few expected one such job offer to come from animal rights group PETA.

However, PETA did indeed offer the troubled singer a job and invited Britney to have a brief stint working as a "virtual receptionist" for the group, in the light of her small part in the afore-mentioned sitcom. PETA president Ingrid Newkirk herself wrote to Britney stating that she would like the singer to experience the group's fight for animal rights first-hand. "You would see — from the inside — why we are so concerned about issues like fur and homeless dogs and cats," she wrote. "As a 'thank you' for your willingness to learn and help, we would donate $1000 to a children's charity."

However, let's not forget that Britney and PETA have quite a colorful history together – seeing how the fur-loving Brit (who also happens to have a lot more pets than she ought to) was targeted by PETA's many direct, often offensive and over-the-top campaigns in the past. "We might have criticized you in the past for contributing to the dog overpopulation crisis and wearing real fur, but perhaps now that your own crisis has abated, a new day calls for a new relationship, a new outlook and a new understanding," Ingrid Newkirk added. There was no reply from Britney's camp, however the chances for reconciliation look pretty thin on the ground so far. But who knows – stranger things have happened.
