PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) mostly means well in their attempts to get people to go vegan, stop wearing fur or not buying animals from pet stores (adopt, instead). However, the manner in which they choose to convey their message on these topics is almost always flawed, bordering on bullying or the obscene.

Think of paint-bombing celebrities in fur or putting out sexually charged ads that are so racy they can’t even be shown on TV. However, with their latest campaign to encourage adoption, they have hit gold.

Tom Hardy and puppies, rulers of the Internet

Tom Hardy, much like Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch and Michael Fassbender (to a certain extent), is part of the “new” generation of talented and very handsome British actors taking over the world - and winning over the Internet.

All these gents have huge followings online, where their work, their modeling and their everyday looks are dissected, praised and fawned upon. However, no other photo of Hardy can make the fandom go as wild as it does when it sees a photo of him and a dog.

Tom Hardy loves dogs, whether they’re his own or random pups he happens to be paired with, for movies or photo shoots. Back when he was still shooting “The Drop,” for instance, photos of him with a grey puppy made their way online and melted millions of hearts.

The guy may have a reputation for being “too intense” (read: occasionally hard to work with), but the sight of him with a dog is really one to behold.

So no wonder PETA went to him for their next campaign.

World, meet Woody

You can see the new PETA poster in the image above. The dog in it is Woodstock, Woody for short, and Tom took him in in 2011, after rescuing him from the side of a highway. He was shooting “Lawless” at the time, and Woody became his constant companion right then.

He even accompanies Tom on movie sets. The PETA pic, for instance, is a paparazzi shot from the London set of “Legend,” on which he plays twin gangsters.

Tom was in between takes and paying no mind to his costume and makeup, he went for a PDA session with Woody on the grass. You can find more photos snapped on the occasion in the gallery below.

If Tom and Woody’s story doesn’t convince you to adopt instead of buying a dog from those infamous puppy mills, what will?
