Resolutiongate continues, as platform parity still eludes us

Konami has revealed the resolution and framerate details for the upcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 2015, showing that the football-based video game will run at 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second on the PlayStation 4, and at 720p and 60 frames per second on the Xbox One.

The news comes from Konami’s official Japanese website and gives fans info on the tech specs of the upcoming entry in the popular Pro Evolution Soccer sports franchise, most likely making some Xbox One owners quite sad.

We’re already used to seeing resolution discrepancies in next-gen titles, and the phenomenon even earned its very own branding, “resolutiongate.” The problem is that we’re usually accustomed to seeing the difference being 1080p/900p, but this time around things look really bad for Microsoft customers.

It seems that Konami was unable to up the resolution to more than 720p for the Xbox One, which is the same the PlayStation 3 variant of the game runs at, and this is quite disappointing. However, it’s also somewhat understandable, if we are to take into account the selling points of the upcoming sports game.

PES 2015 aims to deliver the most realistic and in-depth football simulation yet, elevating the sport’s excitement and quality of gameplay beyond everything that’s ever been done. Additionally, the developers also intend to capture the drama and tension usually associated with football matches, with fine-tuned control and fluid and responsive player movements.

We’ll see whether their claims hold any value in November, when PES 2015 comes out.
