Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D has been confirmed as one of the launch titles for the upcoming Nintendo 3DS handheld and has a launch date of March 25 in Europe, making it the first football simulation for the new gaming platform.

It's not clear whether the same launch date also applies to the United States, where the 3DS has an official release date of March 27.

As the name suggests, the new Pro Evolution Soccer title will keep the same gameplay mechanics as the versions launched during last fall for a multitude of gaming consoles, but it will take full advantage of the three-dimensional gaming capabilities, without the use of any glasses that the 3DS introduces.

PES 2011 3D uses a new “Player” camera that is designed to put the gamer in the middle of the match, showing the movements of the player that he controls and using the 3D in order to allow him to judge distances and angles and then delivering the perfect pass or the perfect shot on goal.

The developers at Konami are hoping that putting the player closer to the action than at a previous point in the PES series will make the football simulation experience more dynamic than before, adding both uncertainty and a new sense of discovery to all situations.

Konami says that the Artificial Intelligence in PES 2011 3D has been tweaked in order to make players on the pitch as close as possible in terms of game moves and temperament as their real life counterparts.

PES 2011 3D also makes full use of the Street Pass feature of the new Nintendo handheld.

When two players pass by each other, the games connect and will evaluate the player strength and the tactics of each side and then compare them to declare a winner.

The rewards for those who win range from Champions League places to the unlocking of classic players and teams.
