As most of you know, the GamesCon is in full swing in Cologne, Germany, and we've already been host to a lot of interesting announcements, from the PS3 Slim to Fable III and everything in between.

But Japanese developer and publisher Konami also had some important news to share as it delivered a concrete release date for its extremely popular PES 2010 soccer/football simulator. The highly anticipated game will arrive on October 22 for the major platforms, including the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. It will also arrive on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable on November 5 while Wii owners will get their hands on it on November 19.

As you may know, the rival franchise to Konami's PES, EA Sport's FIFA, will see its FIFA 10 title released on October 2 in Europe and on October 20 in North America, which will give it a bit of an advantage over the Japanese game.

But PES 2010 will try to make up for the few days as it boasts a revamped control scheme, a stunningly realistic use of player models and an enhanced Master League mode. The Japanese company is also working hard on securing new licenses and implementing them in the game so that users will be able to lead their favorite team to victory in the competition of their choice.

Speaking of competitions, the game will also boast quite a few of them, including the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. Besides the team that will qualify in the group stage of the competitions the company is working hard on securing the rights to many of the teams that are now in the qualifying stage of these prestigious competitions.

All in all, PES 2010 is looking extremely good and will no doubt give EA Sports' FIFA 10 a run for its money. Until the end of November when things settle down, we won't know the winner of this battle. Which title is the most attractive to you? Leave us a comment with your choice of these two great football simulators.
