PCLinuxOS 2010.12 is an updated version of the latest PCLinuxOS 2010 released earlier this year. The latest update brings fresh packages and better support for hardware and printers. It's only a refresh of the PCLinuxOS release and existing users that have kept their systems up to date don't really have any reason to grab the ISOs.

"We baked up some fresh ISOs for PCLinuxOS. They are gui hot and delicious. PCLinuxOS 2010.12 holiday CDs are now available for KDE 4, Gnome, LXDE, XFCE and Enlightenment desktops featuring the latest updates from the PCLinuxOS software repository," PCLinuxOS' Bill Reynolds announced.

PCLinuxOS 2010.12 is aimed at new users looking to install the Linux distro. Rather than grabbing the original PCLinuxOS 2010 ISOs and then having to sit through downloading and installing all of the updates since the April launch, they can grab the updated ones.

There are versions for all the desktop environment supported: KDE 4, GNOME, LXDE, XFCE and Enlightenment E17.

"All CD features kernel 2.6.33.7 bfs kernel for maximum desktop performance. Nvidia and ATI fglrx driver support. Multimedia playback support for many popular formats. Wireless support for many network devices. Printer support for many local and networked printer devices," Reynolds adds.

PCLinuxOS 2010.12 comes with a more recent Linux kernel 2.6.33.7 (with BFS support), rather than the Linux kernel 2.6.32.11 it originally shipped with.

The updated distro supports over 60 languages and you can install the included OpenOffice.org in 100 different languages.

Hardware support has been expanded, with recent versions of Nvidia and ATI graphic card drivers, as well as more wireless network and printer drivers.

PCLinuOS 2010.12 also comes with the interesting MyLiveCD tool which enables users to create their own customized ISOs straight from the installs they're currently running.
