About PCLinuxOS and PCLinuxOS GNOME

PCLinuxOS was founded six years ago, in October of 2003, by a company called Texstar, located in Houston, Texas. The PCLinuxOS distribution comes in the form of a Live CD, but it can also be permanently installed on a hard drive. PCLinuxOS uses the APT package manager and its Synaptic GUI (Graphical User Interface) frontend.

PCLinuxOS GNOME is a community created version of the original PCLinuxOS and provides those who prefer GNOME to KDE an opportunity to try PCLinuxOS while still using their favorite desktop environment. Besides the packages that are available in the original version, PCLinuxOS GNOME provides custom-made applications for GNOME.

I read this article a couple of days ago and thought I would give PCLinuxOS a go. I'm a long time ubuntu user but have had issues with graphics setup for some time due to the VIA Chrome chipset of my Clevo laptop. To my total amazement PCLinuxOS detected all of the hardware and set it all correctly right out of the box. No OS has ever done that on install. I have tried a great many different ones on this system. All I can say is give this distro a look it will be well worth your time.

I am a Kubuntu Jaunty user and really wanted the KDE version of PCLinuxOS. I hope Kubuntu hasn't offended you, because I see it is no longer available. If you change your mind, I would appreciate an issue. Thanks and Blessings to you.
