No Vista, not even XP...

While it is definitely a bit early for this sort of thing, with not even half of this year gone, PC World has published a list of "The 100 Best Products of 2007." Of interest not only because of the timing, but also because of the contents, the list is a perfect illustration of the competition between Apple's OS X and Vista.

More accurately described as the list of "The 100 Best Products of 2007, So Far," the ranking omits products that have yet to ship, such as Apple's iPhone, though it is mentioned as being number one on PC World's "Most Anticipated Products of the Year" list.

The list itself is interesting not only because of the products and their rankings, but also because of the actual age of some of those products.

Apple took six spots, with a wide range of products: 9. Apple Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" (released April 29, 2005) 11. Apple TV 26. Apple iPod (80GB) (released September 12, 2006) 45. Apple iPod Nano (8GB) (released September 12, 2006) 61. Apple iTunes 82. Apple MacBook Pro (released January 10, 2006)

Microsoft, on the other hand, took four spots: 18. Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite 56. Microsoft Office 2007 75. SysInternals/Microsoft Process Explorer 91. Microsoft Windows Media Player 11

Interestingly enough, Tiger, which was released two years ago, is in the top ten, while Vista is not even on the list, and? where is the Zune?? Despite Microsoft's big sales numbers, it looks like these two mythical products are not good enough to make it on the last spots of the top 100 for the first half of the year, let alone the whole year. If Leopard is delivered as promised and those Top Secret features are even mildly interesting, it will push Vista even further back in the public eye; but, considering that many prefer Windows XP over it, there is only so far it can go.
