Diversity all around

PC gaming is a genre that hasn't been really appreciated lately by a lot of analysts who said that it wouldn't stand a chance against the current generation of consoles and that developers would realize the big features that these have against the PC.

But week after week though, things are still going well for developers that brought their creations to the aforementioned platform, as the weekly sales charts show that there is still a heavy demand for good titles from users who prefer normal or digital retail methods to purchase their games.

This week is a rather strange one, as a lot of unexpected titles have crawled onto the weekly charts from the NPD group, Steam and Direct2Drive. The most unexpected one is clearly the Fallout Trilogy, which consists of the classic Fallout 1 and 2 alongside Fallout Tactics, which managed to reach the number 7 spot on the retail charts from the NPD group. Besides it, the usual contenders are still present, in the form of Wrath of the Lich King and Sims. Left 4 Dead is still going strong while Demigod shows that even troubles at launch couldn't keep it down.

Steam charts are dominated by zombies this week as Killing Floor shows that a hyped-up game about the undead can dominate its opponents only from pre-orders. Longtime zombie killer Left 4 Dead occupies the number two spot this week, as part of the continued popularity it is enjoying on Valve's digital distribution service. PopCap's Plants vs. Zombies completes the podium, showing that an ecological way of defeating the undead is a popular one.

This week the Direct2Drive charts are dominated by Mount & Blade, which highlights the popularity of the RPG released last autumn. World War II is represented by Men of War, the RTS set in the famous conflict, which holds the number two spot, while in third comes Cryostasis, recently released in North America.
