Current consoles can't compete with powerful PCs

Gamers will start getting more and more interested in PCs, at least according to DFC Intelligence analyst David Cole, who believes that consumers will become disappointed with the lack of next-generation console announcements and just get powerful PCs in order to experience high quality games.

Quite a few analysts have chimed in with Industry Gamers to provide their forecasts about next year, when new consoles might not appear and existing ones will get new features to attract new types of consumers.

Now, David Cole of DFC Intelligence has shared his own views about 2012, when he believes that PCs will become more popular, as consumers want to get higher quality experiences than those possible on consoles like the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

“As consumers clamor for new hardware, there is also a growing focus on dedicated PC gaming rigs,” Cole said. “Products like Battlefield and Call of Duty are starting to see stronger sales on the PC as more consumers have high-end systems that can significantly outperform the current consoles.”

Other companies, including Nvidia, have also estimated that PC gaming will become more important in the near future, largely due to digital distribution services like Steam, which are very popular among PC owners.

In terms of next-generation consoles, however, Cole believes that, while we may hear some more rumors throughout 2012, nothing concrete will actually be announced by Sony or Microsoft.

“New game system announcements will be thrown into the mix but will lack concrete details. Microsoft is likely to announce plans for a new system but we would not be surprised if they do not give a definitive launch date. Sony may make some noises as well but will probably focus on the Vita and PlayStation 3.”

Seeing as how both Sony and Microsoft still want to keep their current devices available for as long as possible, Cole’s predictions may actually come true, especially since both companies have said that the PS3 or Xbox 360 will still be around for quite some time.

True. I'm one of the people this guy is talking about. I want to play Battlefield 60fps and 64 players with high end graphics. Not the watered down console experience.
