The development team at Eidos Montreal has announced that the upcoming Deus Ex: Human Revolution will have a dedicated PC version which will come complete with full support for DirectX 11, the ability to play the game in three dimensions and support for play on more than one monitor.
Julien Bouvrais, who is director of technology at Eidos Montreal, says, ”When it comes to DX11 or AMD-specific features we have developed, we wanted to make sure they were adding to the game and not just tacked on without real purpose.”
Speaking to PC Gamer, Jurjen Katsman, who is the leader of the effort to port the new Deus Ex on the PC, has added, “In Deus Ex: Human Revolution you see characters up close a lot as you interact with them, like in dialogues. Using tessellation to improve their look really helps make the world and the characters more believable, which is important in a story-heavy game like Deus Ex: Human Revolution.”
The announcement is important because it shows that the developers at Eidos Montreal and the publishing team at
Square Enix are still serious about delivering a PC experience that takes advantage of the strong points of the platform.
Recently, the PC releases for games like Crysis 2 and Total War: Shogun 2 have disappointed fans of the platform because they did not offer full support for DirectX 11 out of the box, with patches promised to address the problem.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution is set to be launched on the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony and the PC, with the release date now set for late August, delayed from the middle of May.
Initial reports suggest that the game will offer a wide-open experience, with players able to choose their own path through each challenge and a lot of potential for replayability.
