PC-BSD 8.2 RC1 Is Available for Testing

The PC-BSD Team has prepared another testing release of the upcoming PC-BSD 8.2 operating system, now based on FreeBSD 8.2 RC1.

PC-BSD 8.2 RC1 features KDE Software Compilation 4.5.4, X.Org 7.5, Firefox 3.6.13, Pidgin 2.7.7, various improvements, lots of updated packages and a couple of bug fixes.

"The PC-BSD Team is pleased to announce the availability of the first Release Candidate for PC-BSD 8.2. [...] Version 8.2-RC1 contains a number of enhancements, improvements, and bug fixes in response to previous 8.2 testing snapshots." - was stated in the official release announcement.

If you want to install PC-BSD, it is recommended to have at least a Pentium 4 or higher CPU (or AMD64 alternatives) with 512 MB of RAM, minimum 12 GB of free hard drive space (either a partition, or an entire disk), a network card, a sound card and a 3D-accelerated video card (Nvidia or Intel).

PC-BSD is a free operating system, based on FreeBSD, created with ease of use in mind. Like any modern system, it allows you to watch movies, listen to your favorite music, work with office documents, and install your favorite applications with a couple of mouse clicks (and a nice setup wizard).
