PC-BSD 10.0.2, a BSD distribution with the goal to be an easy-to-install-and-use desktop operating system based on FreeBSD, is now available for download.

According to the developers, the distribution is based on FreeBSD 10.0-RELEASE, but it looks like that there is still room for improvements. The developers have made a few important changes and it’s recommended to update.

“In preparation for the next release we have been fine tuning some of the new features and making sure the loose ends are tied up. We were also able to close out a good amount of trac tickets this week and commit the fixes for 10.0.2,” reads the official announcement.

According to the changelog, a bug where the orphan package filter was also filtering out some base apps has been fixed, the browser home page has been randomized so that it only shows 10 random “recommended” and “highlighted” applications, some minor display bugs have been fixed, and a menu option to view the recent vulnerability information for ports through freshports has been added.

Also, the ability to fetch/read the pkg-plist for a given pkg has been added, fix for filenames that have spaces in them has been implemented, and the latest ports and GNOME 3 / Cinnamon have been added.

A complete list of changes and new features can be found in the official announcement. Download PC-BSD 10.0.2 right now from Softpedia.
