All right! The pain has got to stop! How exactly did they fix the backwards compatibility issue if the PAL/European PS3 can't handle the most popular PS2 titles? When the news about the PS3 emulating 1000 older PlayStation titles surfaced, everyone took a deep breath and relaxed, because Sony had finally fixed the backwards compatibility issue. Today, it is confirmed that Sony's next-gen machine launching in Europe and the rest of the PAL territories can handle some 1200 older PlayStation titles. Good news right? Wrong.

The PS3 should have been able to emulate older PlayStation titles anyway and you shouldn't be impressed by the number of games either, there are a lot of them out there. The reason why PS3s will probably sit on shelves in Europe also is because titles like God of War, MGS 2, MGS 3, Shadow of the Colossus, Guitar Hero 2, Okami, GTA: Liberty City Stories, Ratchet & Clank 3 and Lumines Plus won't run on your PAL PS3 under no circumstances. Well, not unless Sony waves that magic wand around and makes it happen.

Engadget says that Cynamite has tested the 12 most popular PS2 titles, on the 1200 title emulating European PS3 and surprisingly found that the only one that would even launch was Eragon, a third-person video game, based on the book with the same title written by Christopher Paolini.

Come on...! Not even Guitar Hero 2? In an article of mine, I even went and said that PlayStation fans shouldn't worry about this backwards compatibility issue if they're afraid that GH wouldn't be on the list. My exact words were: "Don't worry! I'm sure the matter is being taken care of as we speak. Heck, they're even saying it will be on Nintendo." Boy am I naive...! So, who thinks that Sony will solve this problem until March 23rd?
