Ubisoft confirms that it's investigating alongside Microsoft a new issue that causes owners of Far Cry 4's digital edition on Xbox One not to be able to play the game. Meanwhile, many users report that, when they try to start the game, they're greeted with the "Do you own this game or app?" error with code 0x87de07d1.

Far Cry 4 launched last year and delighted millions of first-person shooter fans from around the world across the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One platforms. The game was available both as a retail title and a digital one on all the aforementioned devices.

A new issue is affecting digital owners on Xbox One

Unfortunately for Xbox One owners who got the digital version of Far Cry 4 from the Xbox Games Store, a new and rather nasty issue has just popped up on their platform.

Apparently, quite a few users from both the US and the UK are greeted with the "Do you own this game or app?" error message with the code 0x87de07d1 when trying to start the title.

Going to the Xbox Games Store to check if they actually own the game takes them to a listing that doesn't even allow them to repurchase the game, as it just says "Unavailable."

Ubisoft and Microsoft are investigating the problem

Ubisoft, the game's developer and publisher, and Microsoft are both investigating the problem, but right now it seems that there's no solution, as none of the traditional workarounds, such as rebooting the console, seems to work with this problem.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft recommends on the official forums that Xbox One owners affected by the problem contact their local Xbox Support representatives.

"The teams are actively investigating the issue this side, however it's also worth contacting Xbox support – since it appears that the game has been removed from the Store – this has happened for some – please check if it's still available to you – if not, it 'could' be related to that, which MS are investigating too – however as I say, Ubisoft are looking into the issue as a matter of urgency," a rep said.

"I suggested contacting Xbox Support – due to some being told that it's an emerging issue – Xbox Support may need more information from people, so it's always worth contacting them for Store issues."

Until a solution appears, Xbox One owners who got the digital version of Far Cry 4 aren't able to actually play the game.
