Towards the end of last week, on Friday, a dog was found abandoned at the train station in the town of Ayr in South Ayrshire, Scotland. He was tied to a rail and had a suitcase right next to him. This suitcase contained all of his belongings.

When opening it, officials with the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals stumbled upon some food, a bowl, a toy and even a pillow. Apparently, whoever abandoned the pooch wanted to make sure that he would be well looked after when found.

Having been rescued, the pooch was taken to a local animal shelter. His story was made public and it is understood that hundreds of people now hope to adopt him and offer him a loving home. Otherwise put, the dog might yet get to live a long and happy life.

Officials have no idea who the dog's owners might be

The dog's rescuers say that, shortly after he was brought to the animal shelter where he is now looked after, the pooch had his body scanned to find whether or not he had a microchip inside him. Luckily, he did. It was thus discovered that the 2-year-old Shar Pei is named Kai.

The bad news is that the person whom the microchip identified as Kai's owner claims to have sold the dog a while ago, in 2013, and that they have no idea what the name of the people who bought the dog from them could be or where they might live.

What this means is that, unless somebody saw Kai being abandoned and could help provide some information about his previous owners, officials with the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals might never track them down.

On the bright side, it appears that the pooch is in perfectly good health. Hence, his rescuers are confident that, as soon as this entire conundrum is sorted out, they will manage to find a new and loving family for 2-year-old Kai.

The dog's owners face legal charges for having abandoned him

Inspector Stewart Taylor with the Scottish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says that, if identified and found, Kai's owners risk legal charges for having abandoned him at the railway station under Scotland’s Animal Health and Welfare Act.

“Regardless of the fact Kai was left with his belongings, this was still a cruel incident and we are keen to identify the person responsible. If anyone can help we would ask them to get in touch as soon as possible,” Stewart Taylor said in a statement, as cited by DM.

By the looks of it, Kai is a very friendly and obedient dog. It is understood that, until he gets a new family, he will remain in the care of the Scottish animal welfare charity. Hopefully, it will not be long until the pooch leaves the shelter that is now his home.
