Owen Wilson the Daydreamer

"Wedding Crashers" star Owen Wilson will play the main part in the long-awaited remake of the 1947 The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

The project previously set for Jim Carrey as the leading part and Steven Spielberg as director, was than passed to Ron Howard and Chuck Russels.

Mean Girls director Mark Waters in now in charge of the movie, which tells the story of a daydreamer falling in love with the daughter of a bank robber, according to Daily Variety.

The 1947 version had funnyman Kaye playing a daydreamer caught up in a jewelry heist. (contactmusic.com)

Earlier this year, Owen Wilson, 37, has signed on to star and produce two comedies, "Stalker - A Love Story" and "You and Dupree", one for Paramount and the other for Universal.

After "Zoolander", "Meet the Fockers" and "Life Aquatic" he recently starred in New Line's "Wedding Crashers", where he had to cope with his emotions while filming a nude scene with Dr Quinn: Medicine Woman star Jane Seymour.
