Espoo-based handset maker Nokia announced on Wednesday that its Ovi Store by Nokia service would become available for mobile phone users in Latin America through a partnership with wireless carrier America Movil. The Ovi Store will enable America Movil's subscribers to access, download and purchase various content, including applications, videos, ringtones or games.

According to the duo, the Ovi Store will be brought to the wireless carrier's users later during the ongoing year via Nokia's flagship device, the Nokia N97. At the same time, users in the area will have the opportunity to access the portal online at store.ovi.com. The two companies also announced that they would detail more on the markets, devices, languages and features included in the service's availability “over the course of the year.”

“America Movil looks forward to introducing Ovi Store by Nokia to our consumers in Latin America. As the leading provider of wireless services in the region, we aim to bring the most advanced services to our consumers and by offering Ovi Store we are bringing innovation to the way our consumers discover and experience digital content on their mobile devices,” commented on the offer Marco Quatorze, Head of Value Added Services, America Movil, at the Nokia World 09 event in Germany.

With the launch of Ovi Store in Latin America, America Movil becomes the first carrier to provide the service to its customers. Users in the markets where the service is already available can access the Ovi Store directly from their Nokia handsets or online, and can personalize their mobile phones with content that includes applications, productivity tools, videos, podcasts, games, web and location-based services and much more. More than 100 Nokia phones already support the service, the phone maker added.

Nokia and America Movil also announced that the launch of Ovi Store in the area was part of a partnership aimed at providing mobile phone users in Latin America with mobile data services to fulfill their needs. The duo already offers a series of services to America Movil consumers, including Nokia Messaging, Nokia Comes with Music, and Nokia Maps.

“We are excited to announce the Ovi Store service together with America Movil,” said Blanca Juti, Nokia Vice President for the America Movil Account. “This collaboration is an example of Nokia's and America Movil's joint commitment to offer consumers in Latin America the widest choice of mobile content and the customized mobile experience that fits their lifestyle.”
