Ovi Store, the official application portal for Nokia Symbian devices, is now powered by Nokia Drop, the Finnish handset vendor has just announced.
Basically, this means that the Ovi Store now features enhanced integration with Drop, and that users will find it easier than before to send applications, themes, ringtones and game to their mobile phones.
The improvement refers to the web experience that users who access the Ovi Store receive, the development team explains.
“This integration means also that you don't need the browser extension plugin to use this new Store web experience and you don't need to wait for an SMS before installing an app,” Nokia explains.
“For example, if you have selected automatic mode from the Drop client, free application installations are started right away after downloading completes.”
Those who would like to benefit from the new web experience in Ovi Store can do so in browsers like Firefox, Chrome and Internet Explorer.
At the moment, the option is available only in beta, for all those who would like to give it a try.
A new Nokia Drop client was made available for download as well, version 1.3, with enhancements like:
- Support for Ovi Store
- Integration to our service works without extension
- Improved UI with themes support and tutorial screen
- Few bug fixes.
A new version of Nokia Drop web page was made available as well, without the history list that was there before, and the extension plugins were upgraded as well, to version 1.1.2, with quality improvements.
All of the previously introduced browser extension features will be up and working in both Firefox and Chrome, the development team explains.
Nokia Drop was meant to work on S60 5th Edition and Symbian^3 smartphones, Nokia explains. It was already tested on devices like X6-00, 5228, 5230, 5235 Ovi Music Unlimited, C6-00, N97, N97 mini, N8-00, C6-01, C7-00, E7-00, 5233, c5-03, 5800 (PR4+).
