Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia started offering to its users free turn-by-turn navigation on their devices earlier this year, and the company has just updated the experience users receive from the service.

The latest release of Ovi Maps is build 3.04, and the same version remains in place following the new update, only with a minor change in the build number, from v3.04 10wk17, to v3.04 10wk32.

According to the latest news around the Internet, the new update should work with both Nokia S60 3rd Edition and 5th Edition mobile phones.

However, it seems that the new release comes only with some minor bug fixes, among which we can count the “correcting and enhancing of Nokia's Wi-Fi location system.”

Moreover, a recent article on All About Symbian notes that the new update might actually be aimed at preparing devices for additional services, based on the fact that it was pushed on most handsets prior to the arrival of Nokia World 2010 event.

If installed over-the-air, the solution would weigh in at 8 to 10MB, all depending on the device one owns.

All in all, it seems that the new solution comes with some pretty nice enhancements, even if they might not be as visible as one might have wanted them to be.

According to All About Symbian, the 'Wi-fi/Network-based' location feature seems to be working far better than before, being capable of positioning a device with more accuracy than before.

Moreover, it seems that the software is performing faster than before, at least this is what some of those who already gave it a try are reporting.

In case rumors pan out, we should learn later during this month that Nokia has enhanced even more the Ovi Maps, something that it in line with the company's aim at focusing more on the services it offers to its users.

Those interested in getting the new Ovi Maps 3.04 flavor on their handsets should look for it in the software updater.
