The service should grow further

Ovi Mail, the email solution available for users of a Nokia mobile phone, has just announced that it managed to top 10 million activated accounts. The milestone has been reached about ten months after the first million Ovi Mail registered accounts were announced, and shows that the service is gaining traction among the owners of a handset from Nokia.

At the same time, the number of registered Ovi Mail accounts also demonstrates that mobile services are on a growing route. The latest trends on the market show that people are increasingly fond of services that enable them to stay connected at all times with things that matter the most for them, and mobile email is one of them, no doubt about it.

Mobile phones are becoming the default means of accessing the Internet around the world, especially in emerging markets, where PCs enjoy lower penetration than handsets. A clear indicator of this state of facts is that seven of the top ten countries Ovi Mail enjoys growth in account activations are emerging markets, including Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Bangladesh, China, Kenya and Nigeria.

“The service is free, which helps a lot, but more importantly for these markets, you don’t need access to a PC to create or use it. You can do everything with Ovi Mail directly on your phone. The service is supported on nearly 200 device models worldwide – including all the Cseries handsets released last week – and is localised in 26 languages,” a recent post on Nokia Conversations reads.

Moreover, the service is expected to grow even more. Recently, Nokia and Yahoo! unveiled the signing of an agreement aimed at the promotion of mobile services, and the Finnish handset vendor is reportedly confident that this deal will strengthen brand recognition for the service. More on this can be extracted from the video embedded below, where Meenakshi Tripathy, Service Line owner for Mail and Chat, Nokia, talks about the importance of reaching 10 million Ovi Mail activated accounts.
