A new version of the Ovi Browser was made available for download, still a beta release, but with a nice range of enhancements aimed at providing users with a better experience on their devices.

For those who might have not encountered the browser before, we should note that it was meant to offer fast and easy browsing on mobile phones.

“A new 1.0 beta version of Ovi Browser is now available. We have heard your feedback and have addressed the most frequently requested improvements with this update,” a post on Nokia Beta Labs notes.

Among the enhancements that this release includes, we can count support for a wider range of devices, including Touch & Type and QWERTY mobile phones like the c3-00, c3-01, x2-01, and x3-02.

The release notes of the new Ovi Browser version also includes:

Better web page rendering Faster page loads Improved user interface Now supports 85 languages The browser was designed to compress web pages before sending them to the handset, so that it would reduce data usage by up to 90 percent.

Courtesy of this compression technology, users would enjoy faster page loads, while also resulting on important savings when it comes to data consumption.

“Multiple view modes are supported so that you can see the full web page in the original format or in a single column format that’s optimized for your phone,” the said post continues.

Some of the main features that the Ovi Browser comes with would include faster and easier access to favorite websites, the said reduced data costs per web page, as well as the possibility to customize the home page with links and bookmarks.
