Obese ones are also less likely to die when at an early age, study finds

Several reports have shown that, when it comes to avoiding heart disease, staying fit is pretty much mandatory. However, a controversial new study claims that, once a heart disease sets in, it might in fact be beneficial to be a tad overweight or perhaps even obese.

Sheer numbers argue that, all things considered, overweight people who are suffering with a given heart disease are about 30% less likely to die because of it than their fitter counterparts are.

Furthermore, it appears that, when compared to people considered to be of a normal weight, obese individuals have roughly 15% less chances of passing away because of one such medical condition.

The University College of London researchers who pieced together this report argue that their peculiar findings might be no more and no less than a direct result of the fact that overweight and obese heart patients receive more aggressive forms of treatment for their condition.

As Daily Mail explains, such individuals are considered to be high-risk patients, hence their being kept a closer eye on by doctors.

The researchers also speculate that, following their receiving the news that they are suffering with a heart disease, these patients take up regular physical exercise.

Although they might not lose weight, they will nonetheless improve on their overall wellbeing and therefore up their survival chances.

“The most plausible reason is that the obese patient is treated more aggressively because they have more risk factors – like high cholesterol and high blood pressure – which mean that doctors prioritise them, but that is just speculation,” argued study leader Mark Hamer.

“We didn’t really get to the bottom of it but it certainly shows that it is a bad idea to focus on weight – BMI is not always a good marker of health,” said researcher went on to add.

Interestingly enough, it was only recently when one other doctor claimed that, as far as dealing with the health consequences of being depressed was concerned, overweight people were bound to outlive their friends and relatives.
