The game will go into beta sometime this fall

Blizzard Entertainment has just released an exciting gameplay overview of one of the characters in the upcoming team-based shooter Overwatch.

The video focuses on Zenyatta, the "omnic monk," showing him going around town and shooting people with energy blasts.

The notion of an android monk makes a lot of sense, since who would be best suited for soul-searching, if not an artificial intelligence?

The robot monk wanders the world in search of spiritual enlightenment, and engages in some friendly games of shooty shooty gun gun from time to time.

The robot also seems to enjoy chanting one-liners, apparently being one of the chattiest monks in the universe.

Zenyatta is shown on defense in King's Row, a hybrid map revolving around Point Capture / Payload, situated in England, in order to ramp up the posh factor.

His abilities are Orb of Destruction, enabling him to project his energy either in individual orbs, or in a charged-up rapid-fire volley.

Orb of Harmony puts a floating orb on the shoulder of an ally, periodically restoring health, and Orb of Discord attaches to an enemy in order to increase the amount of damage taken.

His ultimate ability, Transcendence, makes Zenyatta immune to all damage and abilities, but prevents him from using his own abilities and weapons. As an added bonus, he automatically restores health for both himself and nearby allies, making it really useful during team battles.

Blizzard is really focused on multiplayer games right now

Overwatch was revealed at BlizzCon in November last year, being Blizzard Entertainment’s first fresh intellectual property in fifteen years. The game looks very different from what the company has done so far, and also pretty exciting.

It's a first-person shooter that mixes in multiplayer online battle arena elements, pitting teams of gamers against each other on various maps, fighting to accomplish certain objectives.

For the time being, there is no release date for it, but the beta version of the title will be released sometime in the autumn of this year.

The other surprise title from Blizzard, the MOBA-like Heroes of the Storm, is scheduled to exit beta and transition into a full launch on June 2.
