14 DAY TRIAL // After a bit of teasing yesterday, Codemasters confirms that it's working on a brand new game in the Overlord series called Overlord: Fellowship of Evil, which has not one but four different main characters that use their minions to get through the Trials of Evil.
Overlord games delivered some pretty impressive gameplay experiences a few years ago, delighting many fans with the offbeat humor and the riffs on fantasy tropes, as players had to guide a menacing Overlord and his minions against greedy or corrupt "good guys."
Unfortunately for the series, it entered a cone of shadow in recent years, but as we saw yesterday, a resurrection is underway at developer Codemasters.
Overlord: Fellowship of Evil is official
Now, the studio officially confirms that it's working on a new game in the series called Overlord: Fellowship of Evil, which takes the basic minion-commanding recipe of the previous titles and adds a four-player cooperative mode.
The game is coming this year to PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms, according to the official blog, and motivates the four main characters on the desire to find the best Overlord to guide the legions of minions.
There's the brutal Inferna, a legendary warrior crushed by rock trolls, Malady the necromancer, and Arch rivals Hakon, a dwarf rogue, and Prince Cryos, a dark elf.
The story sees the four dead villains rise back to life, thanks to Gnarl, the leader of the minions in the absence of a Overlord.
Speaking of minions, they're back in four varieties. The blues will keep players alive, the greens can use stealth and poison, the reds can explode, while the browns don't exactly have a power per se.
Series writer Rhianna Pratchett is back to pen the story of the new game, and you can check out both the announcement video and a special dev diary and a few screenshots from Codemasters below.
