Overlord was noticed for its healthy dose of humor and for its rather unique approach to the
fantasy genre. We are all used to playing the good guy, the armor clad hero type that smashes through hordes of enemies to save the princess and get half of the kingdom. Ever since Mario, we've played games built on this premise. Only recently have games, like Dungeon Keeper, put the player on the other side.
Overlord takes things a step further by putting you in the heavy war boots of the evil arts' master. The twist is that, by yourself, you won't accomplish too much. You need your minions, little gremlin-like creatures that do the dirty work for you, be it pushing levers, killing enemies or moving big rocks. Of course, you can get your hands bloody when you choose to do so, aided by an impressive array of spells. The goal is to crush humans, halflings and heroes alike, so that you may become the ultimate villain. Being evil is pretty hard work and will require strategic thinking, as well as maximizing your minions' strength while trying to hide their weaknesses. All these are part of the gameplay, supported by the very funny touches the developers added.
