And the number is increasing every day

Some say that PCs are not good for the environment. Others insist that they can't live without instant messaging services. In any case, the situation is clear: the PC is here and it won't go away. Even if some hate it to death, there are simply too many PC addicts on this planet.

A company which releases worldwide studies called FORRESTER RESEARCH estimated that by the next year, over one billion PCs will function in out homes, at the office and everywhere else they can. While that may seem a pretty big number, one has to take into account that it has taken about 27 years to reach that figure and only the last 10 have had a major effect on the total number of produced PCs due to the innovations that lead to a major increase in CPU / GPU performance.

As I've said, 27 years is a long time but as PCs grow old, they start to multiply on a faster pace. The same estimations also tell us that 2 billion is the number of PCs we'll be seeing by 2015 (yes, that's 7 years from now). Not a bad day for large system integrators now, is it? Well, actually it kind of is. Because brands such as Dell or IBM are already having a hard time keeping up with the market's demand.

And the demand has also suffered from serious increases especially in the low end segment which is preferred by emerging countries. A joint-venture between Dell, HP and IBM must be taken into account in order to cover this type of demand with cheap but reliable products.

All in all, the PCs are here to stay. Now don't get me wrong, I love computers but I begin to wonder if in time the increase won't backfire. Consider this: as PCs are getting faster, you're getting more addicted (dependent) to their services. And that can't be good for you. It simply can't.
