Microsoft’s Windows Phone Marketplace, the app store that accompanies all handsets running under the company’s mobile operating system, is said to offer over 70,000 applications to its users at the moment.

Nothing has been officially confirmed on the matter for the time being, but websites monitoring the app submissions and approvals to the storefront report that the new milestone was already reached.

Out of 71,173 available apps in the Marketplace, 47,857 (73%) are free applications, 8,031 are paid (12%) and 10,075 (15%) feature a trial model, data from Windows Phone App List shows.

The number of handsets available with the Windows Phone platform on board has been growing as well, which should prove of great help for the Marketplace too.

After all, developers will certainly be more interested in developing for the Windows Phone platform if they can target a larger user base.
