Sony has once again praised 3D technology and how, with the help of the PlayStation 3 and its Bravia 3DTV sets, will become of the biggest trend in gaming.

According to Sony Computer Entertainment Europe studio director Mick Hocking, more than 50 games are currently being converted into 3D for the PlayStation 3, and 20 of them are being producer internally by studios owned by Sony.

"Overall we have more than fifty titles currently being converted into 3D, and this number if growing fast," he revealed. "We're applying 3D to more than 20 internal games at Sony.

"Some of them are massive names. That's a really, really good sign that the industry is behind our unique message".

Gran Turismo 5 is the latest title to support Sony's 3D technology, having just been released on Wednesday.

Among the big upcoming titles that will use 3D is Killzone 3, which is developed exclusively for the PlayStation 3 by Guerrilla Games.

Even if the entry point for the technology is quite high (combine the price of a PS3 and a new 3DTV), Hocking is adamant that 3D is quickly becoming a "key element" for any home console.

"Interest in 3D is growing fast, and many different industries are investing heavily in 3D right now," he said. "The 3D market is going to continue to grow with film, TV, websites and games all set to embrace the technology.

"Once people see the range of amazing content that 3D offers, they'll make the decision to buy a 3D TV set."

Currently, 3D isn't that widely spread, largely because of the price associated with it, but more and more games are being announced with support for the technology.

Hopefully more and more games will come with this support, and Sony will announce some of these 50 titles that it is currently working on.
