Gamers are extremely excited for the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic, as BioWare and Electronic Arts, its developer and publisher, confirmed that more than 2 million people tried out the game in its recent beta stage.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting ready for its release later this month, on December 20 in Europe and North America, so BioWare ran a massive global beta stage over Thanksgiving to stress test its systems and allow players one final look at the online game.

Now, EA’s Chief Financial Officer, Eric Brown, shared with Gamasutra some of the facts and figures from the recent beta stage, confirming that over 2.4 million registered on the Star Wars site, over 2 million actually played the game through the beta test, and more than 250,000 were online at the same time.

It definitely seems that Star Wars: The Old Republic will be a hit, but it’s going to be a different matter come December 20, when players will need to pay up front for the game and then for a subscription to the online title.
