South Korean mobile phone maker Samsung Electronics has just confirmed the fact that it managed to sell a number of more than 10 million Galaxy S devices to date.

This does not come too much as a surprise, as the handset was enjoying increasing sales, while nearing that milestone during the holiday season.

The Samsung Galaxy S is available in a wide range of markets around the world, with Google's Android operating system on board.

The mobile phone managed to win users' hearts ever since its launch about 7 months ago, and is still one of the most popular devices on the market today.

As the guys over at Samsung Hub note, the Galaxy S sold on average around 1.4 million units per month, or around 40,000 devices per day.

When it comes down to the various regions where the handset is available for purchase, Samsung reports that it managed to sell more than 2 million units on the South Korean market, which made the Galaxy S the most popular smartphone in the country.

In North America, Galaxy S sold about 4 million units. It also managed to sell over 2.5 million devices in Europe.

Undoubtedly, the market performance of this smartphone is pretty impressive, considering that it was put on shelves only in June last year.

Launched with the Android 2.1 operating system version on board, the Galaxy S has already tasted an update to the new Android 2.2 Froyo flavor in most markets.

However, Samsung still has to upgrade it to the newer OS iteration in some countries, including the United States, where the phone was launched via all major wireless carriers.

While the unlocked Galaxy S units around the world got the Android 2.2 update a while ago, carrier-branded devices received it at a later time, but US versions of this phone were left behind. Hopefully, it won't be too long before the actual update is being released.
