On Monday, a total of 10,580 people from Dai ethnic group gathered in Jinghong city, in China's Yunnan province, and took part in an impressive umbrella dance, setting a new world record for the largest group of people performing the traditional dance.

The ancient Chinese Umbrella dance dates back hundreds of years and is one of the traditional dances for the people of China's Dai ethnic minority. They usually perform it during important festivals or other celebrations, like the New Year of Dai or the water-splashing festival, and especially during China's Lantern Festival Days.

The dance involves a group of performers moving with Chinese umbrellas in their hands to the tunes of traditional songs, and the basic movements of the Umbrella Dance include the rolling, twisting, gripping and turning.

Normally, the dancing group is made up of a small number of people, but this year, more than 10,000 gathered to perform the dance. They showed up wearing brightly colored costumes matching the umbrellas made from bamboo and performed a perfectly choreographed dance.

The large crowd of dancers managed to create an amazing spectacle of color and joy through their excellently synchronized movements.
