New information on the subject of motherhood says that, apart from their being likely to go up one shoe size, new mothers are also likely to develop OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder).

Thus, a new research maintains that, whereas only about 2-3% of ordinary folks develop said disorder, 11% of all new moms are affected by it shortly after giving birth.

As Health24 points out, this basically means that the women are a tad too worried about accidentally injuring the child and about threats such as germs.

Therefore, they are quite likely to rewash the infant's clothes and other belongings several times in a row, and still be unsure about whether or not they did their best in looking after the child.

“It may be that certain kinds of obsessions and compulsions are adaptive and appropriate for a new parent, for example those about cleanliness and hygiene.”

“But when it interferes with normal day-to-day functioning and appropriate care for the baby and parent, it becomes maladaptive and pathologic,” Dana Gossett, M.D., wished to emphasize.
