About 500,000 of the devices will be shipped to North America

Games industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that Sony will continue to sell over 1 million PS4 consoles each month for the foreseeable future, as there are still many gamers and early adopters who want to get their hands on the new device.

Following last week, the PS4 is officially on sale in North and Latin America, as well as in certain parts of Europe or Australia. Sony's next-gen console will continue to launch in different other territories in the following months, including South East Asia, Japan, or more European countries.

The Japanese company has already confirmed that, as of December 1, it had sold over 2.1 million PS4 consoles worldwide.

Now, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter has talked about Sony's future in terms of the PS4 and predicted that the company would continue selling around 1 million consoles each month, as its production facilities can hardly keep up with demand for the new device.

"We expect Sony to continue to ship 1 million consoles per month, so as of the end of January, we believe Sony will have manufactured a cumulative 5 million consoles and will have shipped 4.25 - 4.5 million," Pachter said, via GamesIndustry.

The analyst also shared his predictions for the North American market and revealed that around 500,000 PS4 consoles would be sold each month in that region.

"We expect the 55 percent allocation to North America to continue through January, and then revert to a more normalized 40 percent of units once Sony launches in Japan and other countries. We think that Microsoft is on a similar production schedule, with similar allocations to North America."

Among them, retailer GameStop will move about half of the 500,000 units, as the large store chain has enough power to sell the devices. After the December rush, however, that proportion will drop to about 30%.
