Campaigners are looking to have it banned on YouTube, everywhere else

The other day saw the release of Rihanna’s much-delayed music video for “Pour It Up” and, as you probably imagined, it got people so inflamed they’re pretty much asking for a boycott of her entire career.

I won’t embed the video here because it contains images that might offend but, if you haven’t seen it already, I am sure you can find a way to do that.

The Daily Mail reports that various campaigners are urging YouTube to ban it, as well as other video sharing websites, on the grounds that it’s so vile and demeaning that children should not have access to it.

Apparently, some of Rihanna’s fans are just as outraged because they never expected her to “scoop this low” just to get the extra publicity.

Two of the angriest voices belong to Dr. Helen Wright, former president of the Girls’ School Association, and Miranda Suit of SaferMedia, who say Rihanna should be ashamed of pushing stereotypes usually used in male music videos.

A video like that only degrades women and, at the same time, sends a message to Rihanna’s fans that this is the only way they could get validation.

Meanwhile, Rihanna is laughing all the way to the bank: the uncut version of the video has over 16 million views already.
