Bruno Tonioli’s job on Dancing With the Stars is not to be Mr. Nice, but he’s definitely crossed the line with his comments to Karina Smirnoff and Ralph Macchio’s salsa. Viewers and the couple’s supporters are still shocked Bruno could be so vulgar and rude on a family show.
As the video below will show, Karina and Ralph did their best for a very energetic salsa. Clearly, the public loved it – and one can easily say that judging by how loudly they cheered and applauded at the end of it.
As far as judges were concerned, they didn’t really appreciate it, because it was too “rough,” too “aggressive” and lacking “rhythm.”
Of the three, Bruno probably hated it the most, if one is to take into consideration the comments he made at the end, which literally drew gasps from the viewers and left some members of the audience with their mouth hanging open.
“You definitely went for a bad [expletive] salsa. Are you wearing extra large diapers,” Bruno asked, as the two dancers were still trying to figure out whether he was about to praise them or not.
Turns out, Bruno didn’t have the slightest intention of doing so.
“Your legs were too far apart – about a mile apart while you were dancing,” he said, explaining the diaper comment.
And then he added, “And you were too rough with your [expletive]!” A collective gasp is heard in the audience, because everybody assumed he was talking to Karina.
Trying to make things right, Bruno added that he was actually talking to Ralph and that the term he chose was in reference to Karina’s costume.
“A pussycat, what is she? You have to be a little bit smoother,” he added, but the damage was already done.
After she recovered from the shock and insult, Karina herself admonished Bruno, telling him he’d been “classy” in his comment.
Judge Carrie Ann Inaba also believed the same, saying Bruno needed a muzzle and praising the couple for their effort.
Below is the segment in question. Check it out to see for yourself.
Bruno was more out of line than usual last night and all the judges would not give Ralph a break. They were far to harsh and over the top with him last night and he did much better than they implied. Bruno should make a public apology to this team for his very crude remarks.
I think Ralph & Karina did an excellent job. I am so disgusted with the judges on DWTS ~ all of them. Several of us think the show is fixed because it seems the judges single out who they want to win and mark my words they have picked Chelsa and she is good but they all are very good this season and everyone should have a chance. Due to the judges, I will not be watching next year.
I felt so terrible about Judges' demeaning comments...it really hurt those of us who are so rooting for Ralph. He is so graceful on the floor.
Hines will pull sympathy votes for falling on his partner, but his footwork isn't pretty. Pulling for Ralph!!!
its time for buno to go. he's obnoxious
and rude, its a family show and he's in the gutter as usual.

I agree that the judges are annoying, unentertaining, and offer zero expertise or value to the show - however, if Dancing With the Stars is a "family show," the dancers shouldn't dress like half-naked strippers either. Just saying.......

Bruno needs to go. He has become the Paula Abdul / Glenn Beck of the show. His comments are more theatrical foolery than anything constructive. If he wants to be the star on the show, then he should go audition. Otherwise, he should stick to judging the dancers and stop all his grandiose posturing
Bruno was absolutely out of line... It's not the first time he has made some very uncalled for comments.. I love DWTS but I wish they would replace him with someone with a little class.
This is not the first time that Bruno has made rude and vulgar comments. His inappropriate comments have caused me to gasp in shock more than once this season as well as in past seasons! I have wondered why he has gotten away with it as long as he has? He does owe Ralph a public apology as this was the worst comment yet! It is time for a new judge and we should all be screaming for it!!!!!
