If you are under the impression that your Windows Vista Sidebar looks kind of desert and could do with some extensive personalization, then I am sure that you will find these two Outlook gadgets to your liking. Outlook Upcoming Appointments and Outlook Tasks are designed to help you with the Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 integration.

Both Outlook Upcoming Appointments and Outlook Tasks enable easy and real-time access to Outlook 2007 via the Windows Vista desktop. "I'm happy to announce that the first two official Office gadgets went live. If you're running Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 then I encourage you to go out and download the gadgets and get the experience of the Outlook To Do bar from the Windows SideBar. I take a special interest in these because I was closely involved with the development effort and getting these gadgets out for everyone to use," revealed Ryan Gregg, Microsoft Program Manager.

The Outlook Upcoming Appointments gadget will display from three to five upcoming appointments extracted from the Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 calendar in a manner similar to the Outlook 2007 To-Do Bar. "You can double click on appointments to open them in Outlook. The theme of the gadget matches the theme of Office. If you are receiving security prompts, you can turn off the option to see the appointment organizer," reads the gadgets description.

The Outlook Tasks gadget enables users to sort tasks according to date, category or priority or group. "The gadget has two sizes so that you can see more or fewer tasks. You can double click on tasks to open them in Outlook. You can enter new tasks into Outlook through the new item row at the top of the gadget. You can mark tasks complete by clicking on the checkbox on the left side of the gadget. The theme of the gadget matches the theme of Office," stated Microsoft's description of Outlook Tasks.
