An update is available for download, which will introduce nothing short of a massive performance boost for Outlook 2007. Mark Garcia - Unified Communications product specialist revealed that the February Cumulative Update for Outlook 2007 would bring to the table “a massive world of performance difference” after installation. Users will especially be able to feel the new levels of speed for Outlook 2007 when it comes down to common tasks such as launching the email client, searching for items and switching between folders, which Garcia describes as wicked fast.

“This update contains a significant number of new performance-focused improvements for Outlook users. We especially focused on the areas of starting up and shutting down Outlook, switching between folders with large numbers of messages, calendar reliability and consistency, and general responsiveness of the application when performing common tasks around managing your e-mail, calendar, and other information. In short, we believe your daily experience with Outlook will be greatly improved with the installation of this Cumulative Update,” explained Dev Balasubramanian, Outlook product manager.

The Outlook 2007 boost in performance is ensured by the fact that the February Cumulative Update for Outlook 2007 actually contains a collection of performance and reliability enhancements. According to Microsoft, the performance improvements have been compiled in a single package in order to streamline the deployment process for customers. Balasubramanian noted that the cumulative package was an integral part of the company's commitment to continually enhance the performance level of its email client. Users should be advised that the first time Outlook 2007 will be launched following the implementation of the update, the email client will suffer “a slight one-time delay” as the existing data will be reprocessed.

“For IT Pros or anyone managing a large deployment of Outlook 2007, this update will help address various concerns you may have received from your users regarding Outlook performance and responsiveness. Many of our customers have provided valuable feedback since the initial launch of Outlook 2007, and that feedback has directly influenced our investment in publishing this update. This update should address many concerns for both individual users and those managing large deployments of Outlook alike,” Balasubramanian explained.
