The game also has Uncharted and Assassin's Creed influences

David Chateauneuf, the leading developer at Red Barrels, says that the upcoming Outlast is designed to give gamers the option to run away when the various monsters they fight are too strong.

The game maker says, “Mirror’s Edge was definitely a good inspiration. We definitely like that feeling that you are actually the main character and not feeling that you’re just a camera floating in the air with a gun at the bottom of the screen.”

He adds that the main aim of the team is to immerse the player in the game universe by asking him to be close to the action and interact in new and interesting ways with the environments.

Red Barrels is staffed by veterans of series like Uncharted and Assassin’s Creed, so it makes sense for the quick and flowing movement of those series to influence Outlast.

Outlast will be offered on the PC in late 2013.
